- PROJECT
The beginning of transformation
Contribution to Just Transition
The Green H2 La Robla project will be located on the site of the former Naturgy thermal power plant in La Robla (León), which was authorized to close in 2020.
The project represents a significant step towards a just energy transition, especially in a region whose industrial activity has been mostly linked to mining and the coal-fired power plant.
The development of the renewable hydrogen plant seeks to mitigate the social and economic impact of the closure of these facilities, contributing to the development of a low-carbon and environmentally friendly economy.
Green H² La Robla will thus provide an important boost to employment and local and regional social and economic development, with the creation of more than 2,000 jobs during the construction phase and 275 during the operational phase.
In addition to the jobs it will generate in the region, the plant will have a very positive social impact that will favor the repopulation of the area and increase local tax revenues.

Contribution to Decarbonization Objectives
The Green H2 La Robla project supports compliance with the European Green Deal, which seeks to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and the European Hydrogen Strategy, which establishes this renewable gas as an essential element for achieving a zero net emissions balance.
In Spain, the update of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2023-2030 sets the installed capacity target for electrolysis at up to 12 GW by 2030 (compared to the 4 GW contemplated in the Hydrogen Roadmap), positioning renewable hydrogen as a key solution for the decarbonization of sectors that are difficult to decarbonize.
This project will contribute to accelerate the development of the renewable hydrogen economy in Spain and Europe, promoting the reduction of emissions and the transition towards a sustainable and efficient energy model.
